Amy Meredith Poehler (born September 16, 1971) is an American comedienne, actress and voice actress. She was a cast member on the NBC television entertainment show Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2008, and played Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation from 2009 to 2015.
Career
Prior to SNL, Poehler was a regular performer on Upright Citizens Brigade between 1998 through 2000. Other recurring roles on TV shows include Hillary in Undeclared (2001 to 2002), Winnie in Kroll Show (from 2014 through 2015) and Susie in the Wet Hot American Summer series.
Her first major film role was as Ruth in 1999's Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. In 2004, she starred in the film Mean Girls with Tina Fey, with whom she worked again in 2008's Baby Mama. She has been nominated twice for both the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on Saturday Night Live, and for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in Parks & Recreation. She also starred opposite her then-husband, Will Arnett, in the 2007 film Blades of Glory.
She co-created the Nickelodeon animated series The Mighty B!, and voiced its main character Bessie Higgenbottom. It premiered around the same time as Parks, and Poehler had become a mother during Mighty B!'s run, so these factors may have led to the show's demise. For her role as Bessie, Poehler received back-to-back Daytime Emmy Award nominations in 2009 and 2010 for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program.[1][2]
As a voice actress, Poehler voiced Snow White in Shrek the Third (2007), Sally O'Malley in 2008's Horton Hears a Who!, the Chipette Eleanor Miller in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise (2009 to 2011), Homily in the English dub of The Secret World of Arrietty (2010), Jenny in the 2013 film Free Birds and Joy in the 2015 film Inside Out. For animated series, she has voiced Jenda in The Simpsons (2005 to 2014), Jaclyn Stone in The Awesomes (from 2014 through 2015) and the lead character Duncan Harris in Duncanville (since 2020).
Post-Mighty B, Poehler appeared as Maura Ellis in Sisters alongside Fey, and was Kate Johansen in The House.
