The Mighty B! Wiki

If you let so much as one girl catch a single fish, then your little Penny... sleeps with the fishes.

Il Baccala is a mobster fish who kidnaps Penny in the episode "Old Bee and the Sea," his only appearance. Il did this as a warning to the Honeybees for trying to catch him and other fish.

He warns Bessie that if even a single fish is caught, Penny will "sleep with the fishes" (in other words, die). Taking the threat seriously, Bessie vows to save her while also stopping the other girls from fishing.

Il is eventually captured by Portia, but is saved by Penny. His voice actor is Rob Paulsen, who voiced Old Timey Banker and other characters.

Il Baccala first appears when he reels Penny into the ocean. He proceeds to introduce himself to Bessie, and told her Penny has been kidnapped to warn the Honeybees not to fish for him and his associates. He views the very act of fishing to be "barbaric" and "insulting," and before he leaves Il sternly tells Bessie if even a single fish is caught, Penny will be "sleeping with the fishes."

As Bessie tries to stop the others from fishing, Il and Penny are underwater playing Go Fish and eating red sauce worms that Il made. Eventually, Portia manages to catch Il with her high tech fishing rod, causing Il to summon a swordfish to attack Penny as he goes above water.

Bessie and Il notice each other on the boat, with Il making a sleeping gesture to remind Bessie of Penny's fate. Bessie goes under sea to save Penny, and succeeds. Back on the boat, Penny convinces Bessie she was just imagining Il Baccala's existence, but with no one watching, it's revealed Penny saved Il by hiding him in a bottle. She reminds him that at one point, he'll have to do a favor for Penny in exchange for sparing him.

Physical appearance

Il Baccala is a magenta-purple fish with blue eyes and black eyebrows. He wears a brown pork-pie hat, has a silver hook pierced on the right side of his lip and another hook located in the middle of his tongue. His stomach is a light purple color, while his fins and lips are dark purple.

  • Il Baccala is based off of Italian mobsters.
  • His name is Italian for "The cod," which indicates his precise species.
  • Il Baccala mentions the red sauce worms he ate with Penny is a recipe created by his mother.
