We're the boys, we're the boys, we're the Sugarboys!

The Sugar Boys are a popular boy band adored by the residents in the city of San Francisco. In season 1, they consist of grown men, yet in the second season the band has young teenagers to represent the group.

The band is most prominent in "Bee Plus One," where their song "We're the Sugarboys" has reached number one on the power-pop chart. Everyone in San Francisco vies to be Bessie's plus one after she wins a contest where she can go with a person of her choosing.

Ultimately, something unexpected and rather tragic happens during their performance at the concert. All three are voiced by Justin Stein.

Biography

The band first appeared on a CD in "We Got the Bee" when Bessie was looking for an album to listen to. The band members in this instance looked very different and much older than the ones we would see in the second season.

They are the central focus in "Bee Plus One," where they are a big sensation around San Francisco, with their song "We're the Sugarboys" topping the charts. The song itself acknowledges the commercialism inherent to pop stars and boy bands in general, with lyrics such as "check out my new merchandise" and "I know you gonna pay the price," in addition to showing off the boys' arrogance ("Just don't touch us, or you'll mess our hair").

A radio contest is held for a winning caller to receive free concert tickets. During the concert, however, they somehow outgrew their name (literally) as they began to hit puberty such as having acne, muscular builds, Adam's apples, pronounced chins, facial hair and braces, and curtains are immediately dropped upon them at the end. The announcer states "The concert has ended due to the sudden onset of adolescence."

A few episodes later in "My Way or the Bee Way" they are somehow back to normal, where they sing a new song to the rhythm of We're the Sugarboys, only this time it's Portia's name over and over while ending with "Porsche" on her side of the highway.

Physical appearances

The lead singer has brown hair, with one of the singer's bangs covering his eye. He also has brown eyes. He wears a pink shirt, black tie and pants of the same color in addition to blue sneakers.

The guitarist has light brown hair and green eyes, also wearing a red jacket, black shirt and a black necklace. He also has a black sailor's hat, dark pants and blue sneakers.

Lastly, the tambourine player has curly brown hair. He wears a yellow bow tie, light blue jacket, a dark blue shirt, white pants and shoes of the same color. On his head is a yellow hat with a green stripe.

Trivia

  • They resemble the Jonas Brothers in both manner and hair style. The group was quite popular at the time.
  • The band's name is confusingly spelled as "Sugar Boys", "Sugarboys" and "Sugar Boyz", all three in-show and in the credits. As no predominant spelling exists, Sugar Boys is used as the article title.
  • At least one of the members has highlights in his hair, a fact mentioned by Portia.
  • It is possible that the former members are replaced with newer ones.
